Spring cleaning? Need furniture?

After moving, Andy and I have a couple of pieces of furniture that do not work in our current space. We would love to offer them to other couples at a VERY affordable price. Pieces include a couch, desk, and tv stand. If you are interested, email me – Lindsey.Sherrod@gmail.com – and I will send pictures and info.

A profile...

It's the end of the year and I've been putting off my own profile (I'm more a behind the scenes person), but if you're interested it's below!

Also, I would love to do a couple more profiles of other wives before the end of the semester, especially for our graduates. Please email me if you're one of them!

What I’m listening to: I’m on and off with music, but I am consistently a fan of Shane and Shane and most worship music. And lately, I find myself tuning to Chicago’s country station in the car. I’m not usually a fan, but it reminds me of home.

What I’m reading: For growth – The True Vine (Andrew Murray). To learn more – Intentions, Nine Hot-Button Issues Viewed Through the Eyes of Faith (Moody Publishers). For fun – a certain celebrity’s guide to style and a wide assortment of apartment decorating books. Up next (at my husband’s request) – The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind (Mark A. Noll)

Favorite fast food restaurant: Chick-Fil-A, Potbelly

Likes: Long walks with my husband, autumn, deep and meaningful conversation, chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone, the feeling of knowing Christ has set me free ☺

Dislikes: Unhealthy food, messes, laziness, fear, and controlling people.

Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee

Years married: Two in August (We’re still new at this.)

Work: Corporate Communications Assistant (MBI)

When I’m not working: I’m reading, writing, thinking, dreaming, or cooking and talking to my husband about all my thoughts on life and faith. (Thank goodness he’s a good listener.)

Anticipated graduation date: May 2008 – Andy will graduate with a degree in Theology and attend graduate school in the fall.

Dealing with the destructive...

They are difficult and destructive - a person in your small group, a high-school friend or a family member. You cringe as their name appears on the screen of your cell phone. You have tried to help them grow in their faith, but every time you make an attempt it ends up consuming more of your own energies as they strain your emotional health, time, and capacity for love.

So, the battleground is set. The last time you talked unfortunate words were said, feelings were hurt and now the relationship is limping along and with its current pace will be crippled at best. How do you move forward?

I have faced a couple of these “relationships” in the last few months. I struggle every time I meet with them. I do not know what to say or do and the hardest part is that these people claim to know Christ. Yet, their actions are causing quite a wake in the lives of those they interact with.

Until recently, I thought that their problems were their own, however, over the past few weeks God has gently nudged me with the words of Matthew 18: If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone….I counter with my pseudo-exegetical thought… “Well, what did Christ really mean here? Within the historical, philosophical context he meant…”

No. It means if you brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault. (Funny how God isn’t humored by my arguments.)

So, I prepare to go, but how? What should I say? Will I be nervous? I always seem to say the wrong thing. As I began to run through this list of insecurities God has remained faithful over the last two weeks and supplied the right information to prepare and equip me.

I have talked with other women who are having the same experiences. We’ve discussed and shared thoughts. And, He’s put the right materials and scripture in place for me to think on. Two of the resources I would like to share with you (I will also add them to the education section on left):

http://www.leslievernick.com/pdfs/How%20to%20Interact%20with%20a%20Destructive%20Person.pdf

I thought both of these would be helpful for us as wives preparing for ministry because as I am sure our mentors can testify to, there is no lack of emotionally struggling people with unhealthy habits to care for in the ministry. However, as with any challenge, we must remember to go in love because our lives often have emotionally rough spots too. And with that thought, I’ll close with a quote from one of the articles:

Remember, one of the surest signs of your own emotional and spiritual growth and maturity is that you no longer retaliate when someone hurts you or does wrong to you. One of the most natural things we feel when someone hurts us is to want vengeance or respond to evil with more evil of our own. But Jesus specifically commands us to respond radically differently than our natural selves would. He calls us to love our enemies and do them good, not harm.

Ballet Magnificat

Ballet Magnificat - performing "The Hiding Place"
April 19 - 7:00pm
Solheim Center Gymnasium
www.balletmagnificat.com

"Omega Company intrigues audiences with spiritually compelling performances...the company brings spiritual concepts to life through the powerful medium of dance. The Ballet Magnificat Omega Company taps into the struggle of two sisters, Corrie and Betsie Ten Boom, as they search for possibilities to help their life-long Jewish neighbors and friends obtain security."

I attended one of their performances, and it far exceeded any ideas or expectations I had. I was very moved, and it was truly a worshipful experience! Surprisingly enough, my husband liked it as much as I! This is a very unique opportunity and to be able to attend at such a low cost is definitely something to be taken advantage of...it would be a fun "date night" as well! :-)

Thanks so much - let me know if you have any other questions!
your sister in Christ,
Hannah Stuart-Walker

Summer housing available...

Chris and Kelly Lillpop will be traveling to Poland this summer for their internships. As many of you know, preparing for a long-term ministry trip has its challenges. Kelly has invited us to learn more about the ministry she and Chris will be doing, as well as join them in prayer. To learn more about their specific prayer needs or become a prayer partner, please visit www.moodyswfprayer.blogspot.com. For other needs, please see below:

Apartment Available! Since we will be gone for the summer, we are looking for a Moody married couple to sublease our apartment from May 27- August 15 (dates may be flexible). It's a one-bedroom in Jenkins. A great location close to lots of fun summer activities in the city. Please pass this info. along to anyone you know looking for summer housing. Email clillpop@mac.com for more information if interested.

For our trip, we are also in need of one backpacking pack (will buy or borrow) at least 4,000 CI (cubic inches).

This Thursday @ SWF...

Don't forget, this Thursday will be our etiquette class with Emily Ferguson, as well as dietician Chris Jensen. It sounds like Chris has some especially useful info for new and expecting moms.

We hope to see you then.

Extra cart anyone?...

If you have an extra laundry/grocery cart, or are moving and will not be needing yours any longer, please contact Danica Allen at danica.allen@moody.edu. She is looking for a used one.

Brenda has a little blessing...

Brenda's granddaughter Riley Elizabeth McCord arrived Saturday, April 5, at 2:59 p.m. weighing 6 lbs. and 7 oz. and measuring 19 inches. She's a cute little peanut!
