A goodbye...

I’m always thankful for a new season of life and exciting adventures on the horizon. We have lots to look forward to as Dan graduates then we start packing to move out of Jenkins Hall in July and we welcome our first child into the world just a few months after that. As exciting as these times of change may be, they also make me rather nostalgic and there is this sort of homesickness feeling that comes over me.

I remember when I was graduating from middle school. Those last few days of my eighth grade year were filled with good-byes, hugs, yearbook signings and tears. Rather pathetic, I guess, to cry about leaving the 8th grade when I think of how much more there is to life beyond middle school. However, no matter how pathetic and naive, I did have one thing right – I knew that as of the last day I walked out of that middle school building, life would never be the same - everything would change.

I guess that’s where the nostalgic and homesick feeling sort of comes in. Things are always changing and change can be hard. Change means saying good-bye, leaving things we love and are comfortable with. It means entering into the unknown, taking risks and adjusting.

Aren’t you thankful that we serve a God who does not change?

While we say farewell to the Moody Bible Institute, professors, friends, for some Jenkins Hall, for some the city of Chicago, for some the United States… it is good to know that our unchanging God is present wherever we are. His years have no end, He remains faithful and His Word stands forever. If you are undergoing a time of change I pray that our steadfast, consistent and faithful God will be your stronghold and rock in the days and months to come.

I’ve been blessed by many of you in this season of my life. Thanks for a great year in SWF.

Love, Danica
